People on the streets are deeply hurting, whether it is because of a bad relationship, an unfortunate circumstance, or simply poor choices. Few homeless people can simply overcome their situations on their own. SLM’s Mobile Resource Center is a means of front-line street engagement to meet people where they are at. We provide:
Because of the love of God shown to us individually, we are there to "love people" and serve all from any race, color, religion, or background. We want to be the "hands and feet" of Jesus. In a year, we serve thousands of meals to those in need. But it’s not about numbers or physical needs only. Our goal in serving:
By serving weekly at Tompkins Square Park on the Lower East Side of Manhattan we have been able to show genuine, personal attention to the hurting, many of whom have become our dear friends. Our goal is to see people raised from a despairing, dysfunctional position to a stronger and more self sustaining posture which can lift them up from the pit. Ultimately, our heart is to see people live a stable, hopeful, and successful life in Christ. I like the way Ann Voskamp says it in her book "One Thousand Gifts Devotional"....Eucharisteo means "to give thanks," and give is a verb, something that we do. God calls me to do thanks. To give thanks away. That thanks-giving might literally become thanks-living. That our lives become the very blessings we have received.
